Ever since the Get In Gear 5K at the end of April, I have been having hamstring pain in my left leg. I continued to aggravate it by going to kickboxing on Monday nights and starting up Kickball on Tuesday nights. For other reasons, I ended up missing the final weeks of kickboxing and in recent kickball nights, I haven't gotten on base to run on it, so it finally healed up. I was getting to a mental point where I thought my shot at running again might not happen either because my leg wouldn't effectively get better or I just got sluggish.
Well, I have gotten sluggish, but that's not what this entry is about. Cate's school had its first annual 5K Walk / Run today. I had known about it for a few weeks and was waffling whether it was something I could do partly because of my leg woes and also partly because I committed to meeting up with ShopNBC (both present and past) girlfriends for lunch. The time would be too tight. Enough with the excuses.
I asked Jen if she would be interested in running with me and she indicated yes. It was dependent upon having a good test run before then. I went out to Woodlake Park Reserve in Richfield as my testing ground Wednesday night. No problem. So I was pumped.
So out we went this morning. The weather was a complete contrast to the previous race. Today it was sunny and 60-ish degrees with a light breeze. Perfect. We didn't have a goal to end up with a better time than our first 5K, we just wanted to get out there and have some fun. We got out there and we had some fun.
Finish time, for those of you interested: 38:23:53.
I'm just glad I got my leg back.

I ran with you in spirit. Congrats on another race run.
I did not run 5K around the bases on Saturday but at 75 feet per base it would take me a while to do so. :)
Congrats -- glad to see you're all healed.
Ugh, and a lake in the background! I'm jealous. :)
Coleman Family- you'll be here to enjoy the lakes soon enough!
