Kyle, Cate and I took a dip in the pool after 8, took a shower and are now drying out at the bonfire the bro-in-law made. I will have a rather musky smell tomorrown to be sure.
Sitting across from me is Cate in Kyle's arms. She's asking him all sorts of questions: where did the ash come from, why is the fire crackling, why did Charlie quit fishing? Her eyes are mesmerized by the fire , getting more heavy with each passing minute.
She looks very sweet and quite comfortable in her daddy's arms. I love both of them more at this moment. A moment I need to capture in my heart and keep when she's older and doesn't need her daddy's strong arms to keep her warm and thinks she knows all the answers to life's questions.
But here she is now, close to the fire, roasting a marshmallow. Her life is good...

To comment on a comment (in calculas, we call this a second derivative, and in art, too): Indeed, a great memory!!, and only available to we in the preceding generation if it is written down. A blog is great, so accessible; but, written somewhere, that's the key.
The human genome has 3 billion base pairs, so the odds approach infinity, these are the few grandkids we will have, "one in a google" (yes, I realize my gk are in the other blog), but we can't be there every time something happens, and they can't be here either (thank god), so blog on, and we will read, I promise!
Incidentally, I did not want to interrupt the flow above with this aside, but corn has a lot more base pairs than we do, like 16 billion (all my genome comes from Iowa, so I should know), and what do they do with them? I don't know, but I do know that they don't care nearly as much about their grandkids as we genetically-deficient humans do.

Such a sweet memory. Treasure it forever. These moments seem so fleeting in our busy day to day lives. Thank you for sharing...it does make me miss Angel but it also warms my heart.
