My goal to say, "take that, gas prices!" all weekend long didn't last all weekend, but I have done okay. Yesterday I walked to WW (1.8 miles) and one-way to Mass (2.2 miles). Today Cate biked and I walked with Max in the stroller to my parents' house (2.4 miles) to meet the newest member of the family--Howard (Howie) Michael Iverson. Cate was a freakin' trooper. I was completely impressed she pumped all the way there and was ready to get back on the bike for the trek back, despite Kyle having driven there.
Howie sounds like he is being a good little boy for his Mommy. And Henry and Millie seem to be enjoying their new baby brother. Howie slept the entire time we were there, but popped his eyes open just a bit as we were to take off again. Cate insisted on having her picture taken with Howie and a little later, Max searched for his little toes hiding under the blanket.
When it was time to pack it up and head home, I gave Cate the choice to bike back home with me and Max or hitch a ride with Kyle. She decided to bike back home (2.4 miles). Since it was lunch time, I decided we would stop off at The Malt Shop to eat and take a break before the final leg. Kyle joined us for lunch and, during which, Max got real squirrely. So Kyle took Max back home in the van while Cate and I set out on our final fourteen blocks. She biked the entire round-trip. I told her how proud of her I was and she just beamed. And it wasn't just because of the humidity.
Max went down for a nap, Cate played Wii, Kyle passed out in the chair and I checked in on a couple of situations on the computer when Ken and Katie called to say they were stopping by to check out our new hosta garden. It didn't take them long to get over (I had hardly gotten far on a little impromptu walk around the neighborhood when I saw them pull up) and it seemed from their reaction, they were pleased with the project. Jolene then came over to use our computer, so she hung out for a while as well. Ken is a work-horse and made Kyle get out the edging we bought for the garden. So they got started on it while we watched from the stoop and lawn chair. Cate got involved in the edging assembly. She would run the pieces over to the guys and also helped lock the pieces into place.
After Ken and Katie left, we went to Don Pablo's for dinner with Jolene. Yep, we drove. Bummer. I would've biked if it was only me and the weather didn't look threatening overhead. I say this now.
After dinner, we hit Target. I was on the hunt for a new workout item--The Perfect Pushup. That and some aluminum foil. A co-worker of mine has fabulous arms and so I asked her what her workout regimen was to get such strong arms. She uses the Perfect Pushup. It's big on the informercial circuit, so I was a bit skeptical (me, who works for a home shopping network--it's hypocritical, don't you think?). It's a $40 investment, so I bit. After the kids were in bed, I pulled them out and tried a push-up on the floor. Hell, no, it was a no-go. So I followed my co-worker's routine and worked the push-ups on the wall. For as low-impact as it seemed, I could absolutely feel it. I have been feeling a bit paunchy lately, so I did some ab crunches as well. Compound that with my almost nine miles of walking, gardening and playing at the park over the past two days, I'd say I have got some good exercise in.
Day two of Holiday weekend has come and gone. Here's to tomorrow!
